Admissions and Starting School
Parents must contact the local authority, who co-ordinate admissions to Shipley CE Primary School, including requests for places in established year groups. From September 2011 the decision whether that child starts on a full-time or part-time basis became that of the parents and not the admissions authority. The statutory school age remains the term following the child’s fifth birthday, which is when the child must be receiving full-time education. Parents still have the right to defer entry.
A request for admission to a year that is full will be considered by West Sussex County Council Admissions Office in discussion with the school.
We encourage parents to visit our school, when they will have an opportunity to talk with the Headteacher and meet staff and pupils. Children starting school for the first time are invited to join their class for a number of pre-school visits during the term before the child enters the school.
To arrange a visit, please contact our School Secretary, Mrs Stocker on 01403 741298.

We invite our children starting school for the first time to join their class for a number of pre-school visits during the term before they start school. These visits are intended to familiarise the children (and their parents/carers) with the school, their teacher and their classroom.
We find that our new starters thoroughly enjoy these “taster” sessions, and it can be hard to persuade them to leave when it is time to go! While your child is enjoying getting to know his or her new class and classmates, you are invited to have a cup of tea with the other new parents in our staff room.
