Music & Sport

  • Music has an important role in Shipley School as we strongly believe it encourages self-discipline, motivation and self-esteem, and gives children tremendous enjoyment.

Every child takes part in regular singing, including the acts of worship in school and in the Church.

All the children in Years 3 and 4 are learning to play the Ukulele. We also take part in the annual Weald Music festival for Years 5 and 6. Performances by visiting musicians are a regular feature of school life.

All children take part in a wide range of sporting activities as part of the taught curriculum.

In addition they can take part in cross-country running, cricket, football, netball and country dancing, and the school is represented at local inter-school events. We make the most of our substantial grounds in the lovely rural setting. During the autumn term Years 2 and 3 have a course of 10 swimming lessons at a nearby swimming pool.
