School Lunches
We follow a healthy eating programme to encourage all pupils to make informed choices about their diet.
Pupils and teachers have agreed that Mondays to Thursdays there are no crisps, sweets or chocolate bars and Fridays are a ‘free choice’ day.
Fizzy drinks are not permitted and pupils are encouraged to drink plenty of water throughout their day. Fresh fruit is encouraged for the morning snack. Cereal bars are not permitted.
Shipley is one of the first primary schools in West Sussex to offer locally produced hot school meals. The hot lunches are provided at the cost of £2.35 per meal, to include a main course and pudding. The ingredients are locally sourced and freshly cooked by The Easy Lunch Company, based less than two miles from the school.
Alternatively, children may bring their own packed lunches in a plastic container, marked with the child’s name. A packed lunch service is also available. Children whose parents receive Income Support are entitled to free meals. More information on meal provision is available from the school office.
